A judge acquitted in 1999 of charges he once conspired to frame
Rolando Cruz for murder was elected Tuesday to serve as DuPage
County's chief judge.
Judge Robert Kilander, 57, was selected in a unanimous vote by the
county's circuit judges to step into the top spot being vacated by
Judge Thomas Callum, who has been named to the Illinois Appellate
Court.
"I'm pleased and gratified they have confidence in me," said
Kilander, a former prosecutor who has served as a judge since 1991.
Kilander was one of seven current and former DuPage County law
officers indicted in 1996 for allegedly conspiring to railroad Cruz
for the 1983 murder of Jeanine Nicarico.
