TAMPA, Fla. It seems like the Bears have been trying to build
their defensive line forever. They've spent big money in free agency,
used high draft picks and scoured the underbelly of professional
football in Canada and Europe.
And still their defensive line is little more than a work in
progress.
Is there a lesson to be learned from the Super Bowl contenders?
Certainly, they offer contrasting ways of building a championship
defensive line.
"You can do it either way, through the draft or free agency,"
Baltimore Ravens vice president of player personnel Ozzie Newsome
said. "The key is getting the right mix of guys."
