LOS ANGELES Jeanie Buss, one of the most powerful, controversial
and no-nonsense women in professional sports, never will forget that
day in May 1995 when her two universes collided.
Just as she was about to step into her biggest job to date-
president of the Forum, the legendary arena then owned by her father,
Jerry Buss-there she was, nude, in the pages of Playboy.
For one scene, she was photographed in an empty Forum, wearing
nothing but a bra, garter belt and spiked heels. For another, she
posed standing in a Forum locker room belonging to the Los Angeles
Blades, the professional roller hockey team she owned, clad only in
shoulder pads and roller skates.
How's that for bad timing?
