CLEVELAND Their rivalry has lasted 100 years, but the intensity
between the White Sox and Cleveland Indians has never been higher
than it will be this season, when the American League Central
Division giants play 19 times.
Thanks to a revamped schedule that stresses more games among
division rivals, the 19-game marathon begins today, when David Wells
of the Sox opposes Bartolo Colon at 12:05 (Fox Sports Net, 1000-AM)
at Jacobs Field.
Already, most preseason publications are awarding the division
title to the Indians, whose five-year reign was interrupted last
season by the Sox and their 95-victory run.
That kind of talk rankles Wells, who makes his Sox debut today.
