The Rev. Jesse Jackson supports the union activities of hotel
workers who scrub toilets and mop floors, but few of them know their
union dues have paid some of his top aides, including his former
mistress and his son.
The Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union-
a union with a long history of reputed ties to organized crime-has
had this secret deal with Jackson for at least the last decade.
Jackson struck the deal with Edward T. Hanley Sr., the longtime
president of the union that federal officials once described as one
of the nation's four most corrupt.
Hanley, who died in a car accident last year, squandered the dues
paid by his members-some of the country's ...
