Bryant Ross was at a bar last weekend and saw a guy with a big
number 10 on the back of his feet.
"I figured he stole those shoes," said Ross.
As manager of Diversey River Rock 'N' Bowl on the North Side, Ross
loses 80 to 100 pairs of shoes to theft each year-out of 800 pairs he
stocks.
Bowling alleys are seeing a lot of rental shoes walk out the door
these days. And no longer is it just the occasional prankster swiping
the multicolored shoes. Now, it's cheap chic. Bowling-style shoes by
Prada, Kenneth Cole and Camper sell for $100 a pair or more.
But stolen shoes are more authentic. A real bowling shoe bears the
size on its heel.
