Article: French doors add charm

Q. We moved to our new house a few months ago, a 40-year-old bungalow designed with the front door at the side.

The living room projects from the front, facing north. The room is L-shaped, and has pleasant views from both a large corner window in the living area and a smaller one in the dining area. The room is very bright.

We have newly finished maple floors, and plan to buy an area rug. At the moment, we have a three-seat sofa and matching arm chair, a Queen Anne-style coffee table and a dining set.

We are having difficulty deciding where to place the furniture, as the fireplace is awkwardly situated at one side of the room.

Because it is a long room, we can't seem to fit the furniture so ...
