Article: De Palma's 'dark' days now showing on DVD

'In those days, every movie was important for us, because we were
filmmakers," cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond comments in a
documentary on the making of "Obsession" that is included on the new
DVD release of the 1976 Brian De Palma film. "I mean, those were the
times, those were the golden years of American cinema."
Not everyone would agree that De Palma deserves to be ranked
alongside Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and
the other significant directors of those "golden years." De Palma was
criticized for being a Hitchcock ripoff artist and a stylistic
showoff; "misogynist" was added to the list of put-downs after
