FitzGerald, patriarch of Berwyn club, dies at 74

Christopher FitzGerald was a devotee of the 1999 film "The
Straight Story," which depicted the soul-searching journey of a
farmer through the Mississippi River valley. Mr. FitzGerald's life
had as many fascinating twists and turns as the river itself.
Mr. FitzGerald, patriarch of FitzGerald's nightclub in Berwyn,
died early Wednesday at his home in Lansing, Iowa, in the heart of
the Mississippi River valley. Mr. FitzGerald had been battling
melanoma. He was 74.
Among his many vocations, Mr. FitzGerald was a free-lance greeting
card writer. He was editor of Nuclear News magazine in La Grange
Park. He was a boxer who sparred with beloved Chicago piano player
Buddy Charles.
