God votes Labour, but He's conservative at heart

YOU HAVE TO feel a little sorry for Elvis Costello. Over the last few years he has made records with big bands and string quartets, and he has contributed to soundtracks, and done all sorts of other things that one might not have expected of someone who started out as a bilious, punky singer-songwriter; in so doing he received some pretty mixed reviews, and alienated quite a few fans. And then he makes a record that sounds like the stuff he was doing 15 years ago, and everybody loves it.
