Mark Isaakovich Prudkin, actor: born Klin 13 September 1898; died Moscow 25 September 1994.

Mark Prudkin was one of the finest of Russian classical actors. He appeared on the stage of the Moscow Art Theatre in 1924, when Lenin was still alive, and for the succeeding 70 years.

Prudkin was born in Klin into a theatrical family, in September 1898, one month before the foundation of the Moscow Art Theatre itself. Klin, 60 miles north-west of Moscow, was at one time the seat of the Romanov estate and at another the place where Tchaikovsky worked, and now the home of the Tchaikovsky museum.
