IT WOULD be nice to get some reward for the effort we put in, but the way things work out with sponsorship and such, we get paid to a certain extent, anyway. In the internationals that I played in last year, for playing or being on the bench you were given a certain amount. It goes into a trust fund and is then released and we pocket it at the end of the year. I can't remember the figure; they were bandying about pounds 750, but I think it was less. I believe most countries are setting up this trust-fund idea.

I'm undecided about the advance of professionalism, but in most of the main rugby-playing countries, amateurism is paid lip-service anyway. ...
