Parishes pumped for extra cash

The news that the Association of Chief Police Officers is recommending improved policing in those areas that can pay for it is no surprise to parish councils. Paying extra for additional services has become a key role for many of the parishes.

In the past month, a parish in Yorkshire has agreed to pay for a patrol car to visit it more regularly, while in Cambridgeshire a parish council is paying for a constable to be provided with a mobile phone. Another parish last year considered employing a private security firm to provide additional policing but rejected the proposal as too expensive.
