Article: Clegg to be considered for release in June

The Government yesterday responded to the campaign to free Lee Clegg, the jailed former private in the Parachute Regiment, by announcing that it was bringing forward by eight years the consideration of his case for release on licence.

Clegg is serving a life sentence for the murder of Karen Reilly, 18, shot dead when a stolen car failed to stop at a checkpoint in West Belfast in 1990. A public and political clamour to secure his release was raised after the House of Lords turned down his appeal.
