Tory MP heads line of Sir Winston's heirs

Sir Winston Churchill's direct male descendants, including his grandson, the Tory MP Winston Churchill, yesterday emerged as principal financial beneficiaries of the decision by the Heritage Lottery Fund to purchase his papers for pounds 12.5m.

The money, to be paid in five instalments over the next 12 months, is to be placed in the hands of a trust fund established by Sir Winston in 1946 with the requirement that it would be used to the advantage of descendants of the male line.

Winston Churchill, 54, MP for Davyhulme, Manchester, his two sons and one grandson, are all eligible to make claims on the Churchill Archive Settlement, which had no assets other than the historic papers.
