Sparks 82, Sting 54
The Los Angeles Sparks defeated the Charlotte Sting, 82-54, today
to win the WNBA championship, sweeping the best-of-three finals two
games to none and ending their reputation as underachievers.
"This is a dream come true," said Sparks center Lisa Leslie,
selected as the finals' most valuable player after scoring 24 points,
pulling down 13 rebounds and blocking seven shots -- all game highs -
- before 13,141 at Staples Center.
"I grew up in Compton, California and Inglewood, California and
I've been here all my life watching the Los Angeles Lakers, watching
Coach [Michael] Cooper win championships in the 1980s and watching
Shaquille [O'Neal] and Kobe [Bryant] do it again ...
