With John Gummer at his elbow, the Prince of Wales pinned
Michael Cassidy into a corner. It was a reception two weeks ago. A
discrete and formal affair at which it is rare for passions to be
provoked or voices raised. Mr Cassidy is the pugnacious, beady and
formidably energetic chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee
of the Corporation of London. A pin-striped prince in the world's
wealthiest square mile, he is used to getting things done without
too much outside interference.
Mr Cassidy is a powerful man, but, even so, it is not often that
he attracts the attention of the heir to the throne and a cabinet
