A new documentary by local environmental activists examines the
history and problems of Four Mile Run stream and proposals for
reviving it.
The nine-mile-long stream flows through Fairfax and Arlington
counties and the cities of Falls Church and Alexandria. About 200,000
people live within Four Mile Run's 20-square-mile watershed. The
stream, which empties into the Potomac River at Reagan National
Airport, is considered unsafe for swimming and fishing.
Local volunteers have been working to revive Four Mile Run for
