Ford Motor Co. Chairman William Clay Ford Jr. said yesterday that
he decided to force the resignation of Jacques Nasser, the company's
president and chief executive, because the automaker was near
paralysis.
"I think we lost our focus in several areas," Ford said. "We do
need to rebuild relationships, starting right here in the Ford Motor
Co. You can't rebuild a business if you don't have strong
partnerships with your dealers, suppliers, the UAW [United Auto
Workers union], Wall Street and the government. A lot of those
relationships are either broken or not healthy."
The resignation ends a stormy three-year relationship between
Nasser, 53, an earthy and outspoken native of the Middle East ...
