Rene Clement's Les Jeux interdits won the Grand Prix at the Venice Film Festival of 1952, and went on to become that year's "The Best Film from Any Source" (the British Film Academy; or Bafta, as it now is) and Best Foreign Language Film (the American Academy). Yet over 40 years on, with "Best Movie" lists proliferating as a result of the centenary of the cinema, it has hardly been mentioned.
