Brady Anderson learned of his release by the Baltimore Orioles last week from his agent, the reality of baseball business smacking him in the side of the head. Anderson had clung to his life as an Oriole for 14 years, cherishing the no-trade power he gained in the later years, refusing to consider a move to a better team.

But Anderson, who will turn 38 in January, could not stop the Orioles from cutting him loose in the name of youth, releasing him with one year and a guaranteed $4 million left on his contract.
