Seven letters beginning with T. Food of the gods, a food found
by dogs. Is there any food which provokes such ecstasy, not least
among the dogs and pigs that forage for it? The odorous truffle.
There's a very good reason why, says Dr George Dodd, director of
olfactory research at Warwick University. Truffles belong to one of
seven families of pheromones, those human body odours by which we
establish our sexual compatibility. Six other categories are also
found in foods, he says; in caviar, shellfish, ripe cheese,
champagne, vintage wine and beer.
