Article: Crew of three killed as air ambulance hits power cables

A PILOT and two paramedics were killed yesterday when an air ambulance crashed and burst into flames after ploughing into power lines.

The helicopter, based at Rochester Airport, had been on a call to an accident when it was called back because the crew were not needed.

The helicopter and its three-man crew, who belonged to Kent ambulance service, were at the Medway Valley Park complex in Strood to raise urgently- needed funds when they received an emergency call about a road accident nearby.

Soon after take off the helicopter, which rarely flies at weekends, was called back.

Moments later the air ambulance collided with 11,000-volt overhead power cables and crashlanded, exploding on impact.
