England's concern at the behaviour of the white ball in home
conditions has prompted a temporary abandonment of the policy to pack
the one-day side with alounders for the Emirates Triangular
Tournament against South Africa and Sri Lanka.
The selectors have chosen several players capable of economical
bowling and contributing vital lower-order runs. But their anxiety
about the behaviour of the white ball, the same type used in the AXA
League and which produced relatively few high scores, has convinced
them to choose primarily specialist players for their final home
tournament before next year's World Cup.
