Jan Ullrich had to lose the pounds as quickly as fellow German
Claudia Schiffer sheds her clothes in the Citroen advert as he
prepared to defend his Tour de France title.
The question many of his rivals are asking is whether the weight
reduction has left Ullrich fighting fit. All will be revealed when
the Tour gets under way today with a short prologue around the
streets of Dublin.
The 24-year-old was not so much a shadow of his former self but a
gargantuan parody as the extended party he took to celebrate his
historic victory took its toll.
Ullrich had ballooned to 13st by the start of the season, two
stone above his race weight more tubby than the Tourminator he was
dubbed last year after ...
