and his wife called Perth, but precisely how charmed each reader will
be is likely to depend on that reader's patience with ill-behaved
dogs and owners who tolerate, if not outright encourage, bad
behavior. Perth, however greatly he may have been loved by Peter and
Cindy Martin, was an ill-behaved dog; for this reader (and passionate
lover of dogs), Perth's story has little to do with charm and much to
do with what happens when a dog's owners wink at bad habits rather
than alter them through training ...
