Byron Wien -- whose bearish outlook as Morgan Stanley's top stock
picker has often ruffled the fur of more bullish colleagues -- is
handing over the baton after 17 years to his hand-chosen successor,
Steve Galbraith.
Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co., the second-largest U.S.
securities firm, announced yesterday that Galbraith, 38, who joined
the company 18 months ago, will become head of its U.S. equity
research department at the end of the week.
Wien, a legendary figure on Wall Street who will be 69 in
February, said in an interview that he will remain at the firm with
the new title of "senior investment strategist," though in a
diminished role.
