BRITISH AIR traffic controllers have logged a record number of
"overload" reports claiming they cannot cope with the volume of
planes in the skies.
Figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority show that 26 such
reports were filed in the first six months of the year. It is the
third year running that the number has risen.
Such "overload" reports relate to incidents when air traffic
controllers fear they cannot completely control air safety.
Last week, two jets carrying more than 400 people came within
seconds of disaster at Manchester airport, when one landed and the
other was taking off from the same runway. The near miss is now
under investigation.
