Article: When Jokes Rub People the Wrong Way

My first reaction was to blurt out, "I'll never publish a joke
again." After a little reflection, I've decided that the column-
reading universe needs more and better jokes, not none. But how to
assure that people will take them in the proper spirit?
I failed wildly in that effort last Friday, with a cluster of
jokes I published.
They were all submitted by one of my longtime readers, Adrian
Cronauer. They all jokingly made fighter pilots out to be egomaniacs
and complainers.
Joke One: How do you know if there's a fighter pilot at your
party? He'll tell you.
Joke Two: What's the difference between a fighter pilot and a jet
engine? The jet engine stops whining when the plane shuts down.
