Normally, you'd be right in thinking that it's impossible to over- estimate how much the Disney organisation underestimates the imaginative capabilities of young people. But, from the entrancing opening sequence, it's clear that The Lion King is going to be something of an exception to this rule. As a massive slatted orange sun rises over the African savannah and the song "The Circle of Life" starts to uncoil, down the aisles of the theatre sways a parade of animals that certainly puts the "best" in bestiary.

Pure delight floods the Lyceum at this fantastical gathering of giraffes, on spindly stilts, lumbering life-size elephants, flapping kite-like birds of paradise and miniature models ...
