Charles Mahoney, whose career spans the middle years of the 20th century, was a fine draughtsman, a respected teacher and a very able muralist who lived the sort of life that could only have existed in England between the wars.

He was dedicated to his art but completely oblivious to the changing currents that occupied the rest of the art world. His work lacks the visionary eccentricity of his contemporary Stanley Spencer, or the wit of Edward Bawden, but he shows a serious devotion to his chosen path and no small talent.
