Article: Football League's pounds 315m TV deal

THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE believes the pounds 315m deal it struck yesterday with ONdigital and ITV will help close the gap with the Premiership elite. Clubs will also be entitled to a share of pay-per- view revenues when the three-year contract begins in the 2001-2002 season.

Brian Phillpotts, the Football League's commercial director, said: "This is a valuable deal which is worth four times more than our last broadcasting contract. We will be able to build the Football League brand through great exposure on television.

"This deal further bridges the gap between the Football League and the Premiership. We were impressed by ONdigital's coverage of sport, particularly with what they have achieved ...
