Flights in chaos after air traffic computer crashes

AIR PASSENGERS faced huge delays at many of Britain's airports yesterday after the breakdown of the air traffic control computer handling all planes flying into the United Kingdom's airspace.

Flights across the UK were grounded, diverted or cancelled as technicians attempted to fix the problem at the West Drayton control centre near Heathrow. The fault was repaired by early afternoon but passengers were warned to expect severe delays, and advised to check with their airline before travelling to their airport.
