SUPPORTERS OF the Good Friday Agreement attacked the Rev Ian
Paisley's Democratic Unionist Party yesterday over its plan to try to
bring down the accord from within the new cross-community Executive.
The DUP announcement that its two ministers will take up their
posts in the Executive but will periodically resign to disrupt
business was condemned as "puerile and self-defeating" by the
nationalist SDLP.
Mr Paisley's party also announced that it will attempt to gather
enough Ulster Unionist votes in the Northern Ireland Assembly to oust
the party leader, David Trimble, as First Minister. The two DUP
ministers will run their departments but will not attend Executive
meetings or take part in ...
