THE JAPANESE have the longest healthy life expectancy in the
world, with the British having nearly three years less of the good
life, according to a World Health Organisation report published
today.
Of 191 countries surveyed last year, the Japanese could expect
74.5 years of healthy life, whereas Sierra Leoneans - the lowest-
ranking - could expect a healthy life for only 26 years. Britain
ranked 14th, with an average life expectancy of 71.7 years.
This is the first time WHO has ranked countries by healthy life
expectancy - the expected number of years to be lived in "full
health". Previously, life expectancy estimates have been based on
