The Washington Capitals' tough guy, Jim McKenzie, took on Bob
Probert, the Chicago Blackhawks' enforcer and the NHL's former
unofficial heavyweight champ, at the end of the second period tonight
at United Center and outlasted him. The Capitals' bench erupted,
hollering and banging sticks on the boards; the Blackhawks' bench was
silent. The Capitals led by two goals. The game should have been
over.
However, the Capitals were committed to playing
uncharacteristically sloppy defensive hockey; fortunately for them,
they were able to overcome that tendency in a wild third period,
