Oscar De La Hoya, whose cautious tactics cost him his welterweight
title against Felix Trinidad last September, came out slugging
tonight as he tried to regain his "Golden Boy" luster. To his
surprise, Washington area hopeful Derrell Coley came out strong too,
even stunning the former champion in a sensational fourth round. But
De La Hoya amassed a huge lead on points and with 10 seconds
remaining in the seventh round put a weakened Coley down with a
wicked left to the body and a farewell right to the head.
Referee Wayne Kelly counted out Coley to end the scheduled 12-
round World Boxing Council welterweight title elimination bout. Coley
