Bill Bradley failed badly in his go-for-broke bid in the
Democratic primary in Washington state today, leaving him little to
show for the five days he spent there at the expense of the big
states that will vote on Super Tuesday, a week from now.
With two-thirds of the Democratic vote counted, Bradley was
trailing Vice President Gore 70 percent to 30 percent.
Even before the polls had closed, a Bradley campaign official said
several key supporters were urging the former New Jersey senator to
drop out of the presidential race to avoid humiliation March 7,
although the candidate has refused.
No delegates were at stake in the nonbinding Washington primary,
known as a beauty contest. But ...
