Was it my imagination, or has the nation, in the days since since
Melanie Chisholm opened her gold-encumbered mouth and let slip that
she had left the Spice Girls, drawn a collective sigh of relief?
Chatting on ITV's Frank Skinner Show on Monday, Sporty Spice
remarked: "Actually, I've been luckier since I left - well, since
I've been doing my own thing." Since she hastily added: "Ooh - I'm
glad you missed that one", it's no wonder that tongues started
wagging. The group's publicists vehemently deny an impending split,
and the girls have dismissed the remark as "light-hearted banter",
though that hasn't stopped the media from dancing on their graves.
