Bill Bradley and Al Gore looked like two prizefighters who stepped
into the ring and then announced they were Quakers. Their so-called
debate here Wednesday was so gentle and brotherly you expected
Bradley to interrupt himself to get Gore a cup of coffee. Gore said
he agreed with Bradley so many times, you figured he was about to
endorse him.
Except for a brief rhetorical scuffle toward the end of the
encounter when a debate threatened to break out, you'd never have
known these guys have been tearing each other up for the past month.
Most Americans may never know at all because they (and much of the
press) turned off the Democratic show the day after New Hampshire to
watch the infinitely ...
