Like some sad Coronation Street obsessive, I emerged from the
Granada building in Manchester a few weeks ago carrying a pair of
Coronation Street oven gloves, a Coronation Street tea cosy, several
Coronation Street dish-cloths and a plastic Coronation Street alarm
clock. The producer, Jane Macnaught, had loaded them into my arms
after a chinwag lasting night on two hours. And, fuelled by a potent
combination of bonhomie and sauvignon blanc, I not only accepted them
but was genuinely thrilled.
My pride in this collection of goodies has, unsurprisingly, palled
since then. Especially as the children keep fiddling with the alarm
clock, with the result that I have twice been woken up in the ...
