BBC bosses yesterday refused to back down on their decision to
downgrade Panorama by moving it to Sunday nights. They are
maintaining their stance despite new pleas for the programme to
return to a primetime weekday slot.
Last week the Royal Television Society gave Panorama three
prestigious awards, in effect declaring it the most successful
current affairs show of last year. Its rival, ITV's Tonight with
Trevor McDonald, shown on weekdays, was not nominated at all.
Panorama reporter John Ware, who was named television journalist
of the year, is now speaking out, urging the BBC to reverse its
decision. "I and all my colleagues hope the BBC will reinstate this
programme in a weekday slot," ...
