Article: Election 2001: Cook loses out in Blair's new Cabinet Prime Minister begins historic second term with major Government reshuffle, bringing in four new women

ROBIN COOK was demoted from the Foreign Office last night when Tony Blair reshuffled his Cabinet after winning an historic second general election landslide.

Mr Cook was the surprise loser in Mr Blair's big shake-up, losing his job as Foreign Secretary to become the Leader of the Commons. His post at the Foreign Office goes to Jack Straw, the Home Secretary, who is seen as a Eurosceptic.

On a day that saw the immediate resignation of William Hague as Tory leader after his party's crushing defeat, Mr Blair announced a bigger than expected reshuffle which brought four new women into the Cabinet.
