GOLAN HAS set the standard and the trials start here to find a
colt that can beat him in the Derby or even justify a place in the
line- up against the 2,000 Guineas winner at Epsom on 9 June.
But while future prospects will be what count when the field lines
up for today's trial, the Chester Vase, for one Classic contender the
next date is in the breeding shed rather than on the racecourse.
Godolphin's filly Muwakleh injured her right knee when running second
to Ameerat in Sunday's 1,000 Guineas and is off to stud after just
three races, the first two having been on the dirt at Nad Al Sheba.
It is difficult to envisage today's Chester Vase causing a major
impact on the betting for the Blue ...
