Article: Storm clouds gather over Sir Alex and United

HE MAY be the manager responsible for making Manchester United one of the world's most successful football clubs, but that is no guarantee of a lifelong bond between Sir Alex Ferguson and his employers.

Following The Independent's revelation yesterday that Sir Alex had been told he will be given no more money to buy players this summer, the United manager said he would sever all ties with the club when his contract expires next summer. "The decision has been taken," he said last night. "I'm going to leave the club."

However, such is Sir Alex's anger that the parting of the ways may come even sooner. The manager had been due to fly to London yesterday
