In the aftermath of the Baltimore Orioles' 6-4 victory over the
Minnesota Twins tonight, a game enlivened by a historic moment and
some touching scenes, Cal Ripken, the newest member of baseball's
3,000-hit club, stayed on the field long after the final pitch to
sign and date autographs. His teammates repaired to their clubhouse
to soak in the history and, almost as an afterthought, celebrate a
much-needed win.
Ripken's 3-for-5 game brought him to the hallowed 3,000-hit
milestone. The historic hit came in the seventh inning off Twins
