ICELAND IS best known for its startling lunar landscape, Vikings,
volcanic activity, and the dazzling cobalt waters of the Blue Lagoon.
However, the country's capital, Reykjavik, a huddle of brightly
corrugated iron roofs on the edge of the North Atlantic, has also
earned a reputation for being a bit of a party town. The sleepy
streets spring into life at weekends, even in winter when the
tourists are few and far between (Go stops flying there from Stansted
at the end of this month, though Icelandair continues). Revellers
pour on to the streets and into the many bars and clubs for an all-
night party.
