A LEADING consultant is calling on the Government to move exams
away from the summer hay fever season to allow sufferers a better
chance of doing well.
Dr Glenis Scadding, consultant physician in clinical immunology at
the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, has written to
Education Secretary David Blunkett asking him to consider moving
exams to an earlier date.
Hay fever victims suffer mostly in June and July when grass pollen
is high. It is also exam season when school pupils are sitting for
GCSEs and A-levels.
The hay fever season has started in earnest encouraged by a warm
spring, a wet May and the sunny weather.
Pollen counts have been up to six times higher than normal ...
