Champagne is my drink of choice for the kinds of parties we hold
in May: wedding showers, graduation celebrations, reunion brunches.
It's festive and especially appropriate for early afternoon imbibing.
There's only one problem. I can't afford enough of the real thing to
serve the friends and relatives that gather at my house for these
kinds of events.
I've discovered a solution: the sparkling wine cocktail. Made by
flavoring less expensive sparkling wine, these drinks look festive
and taste wonderful--at a fraction of the cost of real champagne.
Less expensive sparkling wines are not as refined as good champagne,
but that's what makes them perfect cocktail candidates. A splash or
