A GERMAN tourist is the latest victim of "steaming" - one of
London's fastest-growing crimes.
The 28-year-old was hit over the head when he was attacked by 30
"steamers" in Great Windmill Street, Soho.
He was treated for head wounds at University College Hospital and
is today recovering at home.
Police suspect his assailants of carrying out "a spate" of
steaming robberies in the West End on Saturday night, when "a number"
of people were attacked in the streets.
Steaming is carried out by gangs of young men who burst into
places like betting shops to rob by sheer force of numbers or mob
attack lone victims.
The German victim was not robbed, only beaten about the head with
what police believe ...
